Troubled electric vehicle startup Faraday Future has issued its first recall, covering all 11 vehicles it built last year, as it fights to retain its headquarters in Los Angeles.
He remember focuses on an issue with the airbag warning light on Faraday Future's FF91 SUV. The company apparently discovered that a bug in the car's software could prevent the warning light from turning on if there is a problem with the airbags.
Faraday Future says it will “schedule concierge pickup and delivery of owners’ vehicles” to fix the software. So far, the first customers have been celebrities like Selling Sunset's Jason Oppenheim and (yes, really) singer Chris Brown.
The recall comes as Faraday appears to be very low on cash. The owner of its Los Angeles headquarters is trying to evict the startup after Faraday missed several lease payments. (A hearing is scheduled for early April.) Faraday has suspended or cut salaries for many of his remaining employees, cost-saving measures he recently extended through mid- to late-March, according to emails seen by TechCrunch.
Still, it's notable that after nearly 10 years and nearly $4 billion in losses, Faraday Future has reached the point where it needs to issue a recall.
