Staples, Minnesota. — SpringMath, a comprehensive, award-winning MTSS solution for math, recently received the highest possible rating for fall classification accuracy at each grade level submitted to the National Center for Critical Intervention (NCII).
SpringMath author Dr. Amanda VanDerHeyden said: “The SpringMath team is proud to have our work once again validated by NCII. We've expanded the number of grades for which we've offered evidence, including middle school, and now have the top-rated kindergarten assessment tool! “These ratings provide further evidence of the quality of our assessments, which are novel in this space.”
NCII is the premier site for rating intervention and assessment tools for education. Funded by the Office of Special Education Programs (OSEP), the NCII is comprised of national content and methodological experts who review assessments and interventions. The ratings are designed to evaluate the technical appropriateness of screening tools, progress monitoring tools, and intervention programs to assist educators in adopting tools that address their needs.
SpringMath assessments are based on decades of research into the science of curriculum-based assessment. High-quality assessments determine student needs and determine what intervention to provide. Assessments used in education must be efficient, sensitive to change, and must measure exactly what is taught each week. Since 2018, NCII has recognized SpringMath's high classification accuracy. “Valid and reliable assessments are the backbone of any intervention tool, ensuring that the most effective interventions possible are delivered. “We are very proud to offer a best-in-class solution that helps students across the country improve their math performance,” shared Dr. VanDerHeyden.
In addition to the grades Of the SpringMath evaluations, the NCII site also includes reviews of two randomized controlled trials in the academic interventions box. These rigorous studies demonstrate the effectiveness of SpringMath interventions. The NCII Intervention Taxonomy Summary describes how SpringMath addresses each of the areas of the intervention intensity taxonomy to maximize effectiveness.
SpringMath has an active research agenda and collaborates with MTSS leaders across the country to advance the understanding of science and benefit students who use its interventions. Dr. Amanda VanDerHeyden and colleagues have published 42 peer-reviewed journal articles, plus books, book chapters, and policy guides focused on mathematics intervention, measurement, and MTSS since 2000. Dr. VanDerHeyden is also one of the founders and taxpayers mathematics science motion.
