The typically crude world of rainbow six is getting a colorful makeover. Ubisoft has just revealed the latest spin-off of the franchise, a mobile game called Rainbow Six: Smol that cuts down on the tactical action and adds a lot of goofy personality. The game is now available through Netflix games on both iOS and Android.
“We saw here an opportunity to broaden the audience a little, with a more accessible vision of the topic. rainbow six universe,” says creative director Renaud Forestié The edge. The game features what Forestié describes as the pillars of the franchise, including the Operator characters and destructible environments to open up new strategies, but features a top-down point of view and a cheesy art style. You can try it out in the trailer above.
The game was developed by a suitably small team of 10 people at Ubisoft and, according to Forestié, Netflix was involved from the beginning, meaning the game was designed around the subscription platform and not monetization. “That allowed us to not have to spend energy on microtransactions and ads so we could focus on the player experience,” he explained.
