If fans want to see the Detroit Lions and Tampa Bay Buccaneers face off in person in their divisional playoff game at Ford Field on Jan. 21, then they'll have to pay a lot of money to see it. Demand for tickets to the game has skyrocketed to historic levels, something SeatGeek said it had not seen before at any Lions game.
“Detroit is filled with anticipation for this weekend's Lions game at Ford Field, following the team's first playoff win in 32 years,” said Oliver Marvin, director of business operations for SeatGeek. “This weekend's matchup is the most requested Lions game I've ever seen on SeatGeek, and Detroit fans are eager for the chance to see their team reach the NFC Championship.”

Currently, the average ticket resale price for the highly anticipated game is $1,127 and the gate price is $557, according to SeatGeek data shared with TheStreet. Prices also include additional taxes and fees. SeatGeek cites that the playoff matchup even exceeded demand for the upcoming Green Bay Packers vs. San Francisco 49ers on January 20, which is the second most in-demand playoff game SeatGeek has seen heading into the weekend.
Anticipation surrounding the Lions has been building in recent weeks, and ticket prices for the team's latest games certainly reflect that. For the team's playoff game against the LA Rams on January 14, which SeatGeek says is the second most in-demand Lions game it has ever seen, reportedly It had an entry price of $402. Tickets for that game were priced higher than any other NFL playoff game that took place that weekend.

The last time the Lions made it to the Super Bowl was… never, which could explain the increasing demand surrounding the team's games as the playoff season progresses. This week's playoff matchup could be a challenge for the Lions, as the Bucs have only been to (and won) two Super Bowls, with the last coming in 2021.
To be fair, the last time The Bucs and Lions matchup was during Week 6 of the regular season on October 15, 2023, at Raymond James Stadium, where the Bucs lost 20-6.
Ticket prices for NFL games have increased in recent years. In 2022, the average cost of an NFL ticket was $235. By 2023, the average will skyrocket to $337, according to data from TicketSmarter.
“Demand has never been higher,” TicketSmarter CEO Jeff Goodman said while speaking with USA TODAY Sports in September.
