Wi-Fi 7 is the next version of Wi-Fi that will follow Wi-Fi 6E. Like Wi-Fi 6E, the protocol works in the 2.4 GHz, 5 GHz, and 6 GHz bands and is backward compatible with devices. Wi-Fi 7 promises faster performance through features like 320MHz channel bandwidth, which is double what is offered in Wi-Fi 6E; Multi-Link Operation, which combines bands into a single, faster and more stable connection; and improved interference handling.
However, the standard has not yet been finalized and there are no client devices (phones, laptops, etc.) that support it, putting current Wi-Fi 7 routers firmly in the early adopter market. Still, there may be some benefits to using Wi-Fi 7 mesh systems, which will be able to take advantage of the features listed above for faster and more stable wireless backhaul connections between nodes.
