Investing.com – Major U.S. indexes rose on thin volume and investors largely closed their doors as a positive year on Wall Street nears its end.
Here are some of the biggest drivers of US stocks today:
Shares of Microsoft (NASDAQ rose 0.3% despite The New York Times suing the software giant, as well as OpenAI, accusing them of using millions of newspaper articles without permission to help train chatbots to provide information to the readers.
Shares of Apple (NASDAQ rose 0.5% after a US appeals court suspended a government commission's import ban on sales of the tech giant's flagship smartwatches following a patent dispute with Masimo (NASDAQ about their medical monitoring technology.
The ADRs of Sociedad Química y Minera de Chile (SQM) rose 3% after the miner agreed to a partnership with Chilean state mining company Codelco for future lithium projects in the country.
Shares of Marathon Digital (NASDAQ fell 8.4%, with the miner clawing back strong gains from the previous session on optimism that a cryptocurrency ETF will be authorized in the near future.
Shares of Karuna Therapeutics (NASDAQ fell 0.1% after analysts downgraded their stance on the biotech company to “neutral” from “overweight,” citing its valuation.
Shares of AIG (NYSE:) rose 1% after analysts initiated coverage of the insurance giant with a “buy” rating, calling it a “classic turnaround play.”
Cingulate (CING) shares rose 125% after the biopharmaceutical company, which is developing a treatment for ADHD, revealed that the delisting of its stock was delayed until at least February.
VinFast (NASDAQ shares rose 1.8% after the Vietnamese electric vehicle maker launched its first partnership with a US-based distributor in its latest effort to boost sales in the US market.
Boeing (NYSE:) fell 1.3% after urging airlines to inspect newer 737 MAX planes for loose bolts in the rudder control system. The FAA is closely monitoring specific inspections.
AMD (NASDAQ NASDAQ:) rose 2.3%, hitting a new 52-week high. Shares are up 20% in the last 30 days.
