Hi, I’m Stephan Tual and I’ve been responsible for Ethereum adoption and education since January as CCO. I run our UK too ÐΞV hub, located at Co-Work in Putney (South West London).
I feel really privileged to be able to lead the communication strategy effort at ÐΞV. For the first time, we are seeing the general public take a genuine interest in the potential of decentralization. The feeling of excitement about what ‘could be’ when I first read Vitalik’s whitepaper on that fateful Christmas afternoon is now shared by tens of thousands of technologists, developers and entrepreneurs.
With the sale of Ether, a group of smart, hard-working people can now work full-time to solve major technical and adoption challenges, delivering a solution 10 times faster than an equivalent Ether-based initiative would have. a garage. With Ethereums APIs supporting Gav’s vision for network 3, it is finally within the reach of the community to build decentralized applications without intermediaries. By democratizing access to programmable blockchain technology, Ethereum empowers software developers and entrepreneurs to have a major impact not only on the decentralization of the economy, but also on social structures, voting mechanisms, and much more. more. It is a very ambitious project, and everyone in ÐΞV you feel a strong sense of duty to fulfill this vision.
As part of our efforts, technology is of course key, but so is adoption. Ethereum without dapps (decentralized applications) would be similar to a video game console without launch titles, and like any protocol, we expect the apps to be the real stars of the show. This is how we plan to spread the word and support developers in their efforts.
Education
building a resume: We are creating a comprehensive curriculum tailored for both teachers and self-learners at home, in hackathons, and at universities around the world. Composed of well-defined modules that progress in complexity over time, our goal is to set a standard for learning that will, of course, be completely free and 100% open source.
content aggregation: at this time we are aware that the information on how to ‘get into’ Ethereum is a bit fragmented between forums, multiple wikis and various third party sites. A subdomain for our website will be created over the course of the next few months to access this valuable information easily and in one place.
Produce tutorials, videos and articles.: Tutorials are key to learning a new set of languages and tools. By producing text-based tutorials and videos, we intend to give the community an insider’s view on best practices, from structuring contract storage to leveraging the new whisper P2P messaging system for example.
Site similar to CodeAcademy: Not everyone likes to learn in a classroom setting, and some feel limited by linear tutorials. With a launch date to coincide with the launch of Ethereum, we partnered with a US-based company to create a CodeAcademy-like site within a gamified environment, where you can learn at your own pace how to build dapps and their backend contracts.
university chapters:Vitalik and I recently gave a presentation at Cambridge University and Ethereum will participate in the Hackathon on Transparency on November 26 at the University of Geneva. Encouraged by the enthusiasm we’ve seen in academia, we’re working to directly support the Oxbridge Blocktech Network (OBN) in its efforts to build a network of chapters, first within the UK and then across Europe.
I am pleased to announce that Ken Kappler has joined the UK team to help with these educational efforts. Many of you in London know Ken, as he’s been a semi-permanent fixture at all of our meetups and hackathons, kindly helping us out behind the scenes. Ken, known as BlueChain in ircis also the writer behind http://dappsforbeginners.wordpress.com/ which will soon be merged with our own educational site.
Ken will be running a weekly ‘Ethereum Clinic’ on IRC to answer any questions you may have with your current project. Schedules will be posted on our forums
meetings
Encourage the creation of new meetups: we now have an extensive network of 85 meetings around the world, which is an amazing achievement but not enough to handle the overwhelming demand for regular updates in a format appropriate to local needs and culture. We intend to encourage the creation of new meetings in almost all countries and major urban centers.
tools and support– To fuel the effort to create and maintain such a large network of international meetings, we will provide tools for meeting leaders to interact with each other, gain access to the central development team for video conferencing or physical interventions, and exchange information about speakers. Of course, these tools will be free to use and access.
Guarantees and places– For meetings that are the most active, Ethereum is considering, where appropriate, the use of small grants so that meeting leaders in these “core venues” do not have to deal with the full costs of collateral and venues. We will also work with our partners to help meetings secure sponsorships and access to free locations to host their mini-conferences.
world hackathon: Starting this week, Ethereum workshops will slowly transform into real hackathons. We’re working with amazing places around the world, the vast majority of which started as Ethereum meetups, to host a worldwide hackathon with some cool ETH prizes for the best dapps.
We are very lucky to receive antonio d’onofrio to promote these important initiatives. Anthony starts on the 10th of this month and will also cover the North American region from a community perspective; you probably already know him as ‘Texture’, his username on most forums and channels.
I am incredibly proud that the community exposure for Ethereum has been completely organic since day one. This has been the result of significant and time-consuming efforts to identify Ethereum projects in the wild, reaching out directly and building a strong relationship with our user base. We have achieved several key milestones, including over 10,000 followers on Twitter100,000 page views per month on our website, similar numbers on our forums and the growth trend only continues to accelerate.
Historically, Ethereum has never used public relations as a tool to increase adoption, relying instead on word of mouth, meetings, and conferences to get the word out. With the media attention rapidly intensifying, I am pleased to welcome Freya Stevens to the team as director of public relations and marketing. Freya will help us build a shared database of media leaders, write articles, and make complex technology acceptable to the general public, while also identifying story strengths. Freya is based in Cambridge, UK.
Also with a view to expanding these initiatives, we are proud to welcome George Hallam to the team, also known as the five ghostswho recently posted a poll so you can let Ethereum know how well we are doing our job as custodians and developers of the platform. George, as a key supporter of the community of londonIt will already be familiar to many.
As part of these efforts, expect to see many more interactions on Reddit, ircDiscuss and of course our own forums. George will also help me identify key Ethereum-based projects and network to see how we can best help with insights, connections and inclusion as guests on our weekly video updates, filmed in our Putney Studio.
In order to produce very high quality content, we also welcome Ian Meikle to Central London. Ian is the creator of most of the video material you might have seen related to Ethereum, including the excellent video loop that’s been a staple at many an Ethereum meetup. Ian will leverage our studio equipment to create explainer videos, interview key players in the space, and record panels led by vinay guptawho joins the communications team as a Strategic Consultant.
In London, and beyond our present panels, social networks and hackathonsRegular ‘show and tell’ is being scheduled for dapp developers to present their work and receive feedback, a model we intend to promote internationally during the month.
And of course, last but not least, look forward to a major update to our website, with beautiful and clean content, practical dapp examples, a dynamic meeting map, and links to all of our newly created assets and touchpoints. of the community.
In conclusion
The question we will continue to ask ourselves every day is how we support you, the community, in creating amazing dapps and the success of your business on our platform. I hope the above gives you a quick introduction to our plans. I will post regular updates on both this blog and our Youtube.
