The current generation of consoles is getting its first redesign, and Sony’s new “slim” PlayStation 5 is finally landing after its announcement in October. The reviewed PS5 may not be that small, but it features a unique removable disk drive, two front USB-C ports (instead of one USB-C and one USB-A), and expanded 1TB internal storage. The new PS5 Digital Edition starts at $449.99 (notably, it’s $50 further than the original PS5 Digital Edition), while the standard PS5 with the removable disk drive included costs the same $499.99 as the older, larger model it’s replacing.
The new PS5 consoles are certainly unique, as they play the same games as the original models with the same 4K graphical fidelity and offer users the flexibility to change their mind about the disc drive after the moment of purchase. Of course, if you buy the base model and choose to upgrade to #disclife, that will cost you an additional $79.99, meaning your “upgraded” PS5 will cost a total of $529.98.

The new standard PlayStation 5 for late 2023 again costs $499.99 and includes a disc drive that is now removable. The new PS5 is offered as a bundle with a free digital game at several retailers, saving you between $59.99 and $69.99. You can get the console with Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 (in Best Buy) either Call of Duty: Modern Warfare III (in Best Buy, Game stop, Walmartor directly from games station).
Aside from the detachable unit, the new “slim” PS5 is 30 percent smaller in volume and 24 percent lighter, according to Sony. The most tangible benefit, however, may be the console’s larger 1TB SSD, which is 175GB more than the non-slim models.
I can’t blame you if you want the slim PS5 Digital Edition based solely on aesthetics, because while part router, part Sony flip Oreo is still a futuristic monstrosity, at least the discless Digital Edition is the best. -looking at all of them. Unfortunately, at this time, the Digital Edition is not yet available in retail stores, not even directly from Sony. We’ll be keeping an eye on when it lands, which could be any time.
