Today, SEC Chairman Gary Gensler visited X (Twitter) to commemorate the 15th anniversary of the bitcoin white paper.
Gensler, who wasnominatedby President Biden to serve as SEC Chairman in 2021, celebrated the publication of pseudonymous creator Satoshi Nakamoto’s original bitcoin white paper, along with a message that read“If Satoshi Nakamoto was Satoshi Nakamoto for Halloween, could we know? Happy 15th anniversary to the famous Satoshi white paper that started cryptocurrencies.”
This unexpected celebration of the bitcoin white paper by the head of the US Securities and Exchange Commission has sparked intrigue and discussion among bitcoin enthusiasts and investors, as the SEC will soon have to make decisions on multiple requests for Spot bitcoin ETF. Some of the world’s largest financial institutions, notably $10 trillion asset manager BlackRock, hope to become the country’s first applicants to gain approval for this product.
The 15th anniversary of the bitcoin white paper is significant as it marked the birth of a new era in finance and technology. Since then, bitcoin has challenged traditional financial systems and institutions, amassing more than $670 billion in market capitalization today, and has become a national currency.
