He Red Astara multi-chain smart contract platform, announced the launch of its zero-knowledge (ZK) Layer 2 ethereum solution, zKatana, to improve interoperability with ethereum-compatible chains.
The zKatana testnet
zKatana refers to the project’s Japanese roots, representing a serrated sword used by feudal samurai in combat. The project is a zero-knowledge EVM (zkEVM) scaling solution on ethereum (ethereum” data-type=”link” data-id=”https://www.coinlore.com/coin/ethereum” target=”_blank” rel=”noopener”>eth) designed to increase interoperability between Astar and EVM-compatible chains.
The zkEVM Layer 2 solution is an addition to Astar Network’s technology stack, which comprises a variety of tools and products that offer businesses and developers the best-in-class technology stacks needed to build their projects.
zKatana would allow developers to test their innovative ideas and at the same time allow Astar to test and confirm their theories about the network’s functionality and verify their hypotheses about parameters such as gas usage.
The layer 2 solution is powered by the Polygon Chain developer kit, which uses ZK proofs to verify transactions. The testnet provides a bridge that allows moving eth from testnet to Astar zkEVM.
This high EVM equivalence allows developers to run their existing smart contracts on zKatana. Additionally, the testnet includes a faucet for users to claim zkEVM eth and a blockchain explorer to view transactions on the network.
Commenting on the launch, Maarten Henskens, Director of the Astar Foundation, said:
“We are excited to launch our Astar zkEVM testnet and invite our community and developers to test what the future of ethereum scaling will look like. It’s been an exciting few days collaborating with incredible partners to prepare for the launch of our testnet and upcoming mainnet. With this testnet phase, we want to focus on verifying our hypothesis and investigating the parameters that will ultimately provide the best user experience for our mainnet launch. I can’t wait to see the reactions once we start sharing the names of our partners coming to zkEVM.”
Astar partners with companies to develop zKatana
EVM support allows zKatana to benefit from the established security and tools of ethereum while reducing the cost of transactions. Additionally, Astar has partnered with Gelato, Layer-0, Alchemy, and Rarible to test the capability of the zKatana testnet based on it.
The zKatana testnet launch is focused on providing businesses with the secure, scalable and gas-efficient platform they need to offer their products or services.
Developers can also participate in Astar zkEVM testing by checking the documentation and connect with the Astar team through checking in.
