NFTs allow fans of high-end brands to get their hands on what was previously unattainable: affordable luxury items. It sounds like an oxymoron, but a host of innovative companies have found ways to make luxury goods accessible thanks to Web3. Specifically, major fashion brands like Balenciaga, Prada, and Gucci offer digital collectibles at a fraction of the price of their real-world designer items, allowing a new wave of fans to connect (and collect).
But the world of Web3 luxury extends well beyond the digital catwalk. In November 2022, sports car manufacturer Porsche announced its first official NFT collection. Now, in materials shared exclusively with nft now, the Porsche team relayed everything you need to know about the project: the price, the utility, the minting date, an accompanying airdrop, and more.

Each of the 7,500 NFTs in the Porsche Collection will be priced at 0.911 ETH and will be available in four waves. Interested? Selected individuals can start taking part in the action on January 23 at 9 am UTC-5. A public mind will follow at 4 pm UTC-5.

While Porsche says it has plans for future projects, they note that if it mints a digital collectible from this first project, it will become part of what Porsche calls the “Pioneer Circle.”

Every NFT Porsche starts out as a blank slate: a white Porsche 911 Carrera with an individual number plate. Over the course of several months, holders will be able to tailor their NFT to their personality by choosing from three possible “paths”: performance, heritage, or lifestyle.
In terms of customization opportunities, there are over 150,000 possible design combinations with variables spanning different backgrounds, colors, and related design elements. The company notes that there will also be randomization elements that they will take into account. Eventually, owners will be able to claim a 3D version of the 2D NFT.
The team notes that the project was structured this way to allow participants to connect more closely with both the brand and their particular NFT.
“In creating the visual interpretation, we drew on Porsche heritage, typical Porsche elements and modern lifestyle to put together an exciting set of possible layers on a creative journey,” said Lars Krämer, Manager Innovation and Methods, in exclusively shared press materials. with nft now. “We leave some freedom to owners so they can let their style and mood flow into the display,” he added.
For this project, Porsche has teamed up with Hamburg-based designer and 3D artist Patrick Vogel. Vogel will create the different design elements of the NFTs and work with user input from the initial sale to prepare each NFT as a special 3D asset in Unreal Engine 5.
While some artists may feel uncomfortable giving up so much control through collaboration, Vogel embraces it.
“Web3 is always about what comes next,” he explained. “You always have this co-creation in mind. It is different from normal creation in Web2. I love working with iconic things. I love doing really weird art. Colorful, playful. And if Porsche calls you and says, ‘Hey, can you do this?’ You say, ‘Of course.’”
Also contributing his artistic skills to the project is Belgian visual artist Vexx, who is responsible for hand-painting the Porsche Vision Gran Turismoand digital artist Chris Labrooy. Labrooy created the physique.”dream big” installation at Art Basel Miami.
Building a fully digital environment
The NFT collection is just the beginning of Porsche’s journey towards Web3. The company has expressed interest in eventually bringing the shopping experience for its luxury products to Web3. Some of these plans are still in flux, but Porsche points out that this is by design.
“The core of the project is the community,” Krämer said while speaking on nft now’s The Gateway: A Web3 Metropolis. “We want to get in touch with the community and have co-creation. That is the goal. I am really looking forward to having the first co-creation session with headlines in the future. We can test the artists’ designs in the future and bring them together with the artists and our entire team.”
