DevCon 1 will take place in London from November 9 to 13, just over a hundred days since the Ethereum network launched. Over the last few months, we have seen the network grow from a few hundred nodes from that exciting and special night to a very substantial stable platform deployed globally with thousands of developers pushing towards the decentralization revolution that motivates us and inspire.
DevCon will have three main categories of topics:
- Basic research and core protocols: including proof of stake, scalability, network protocols, privacy, and zero-knowledge proofs, as well as some of the more mathematical aspects of decentralized protocols like stablecoins, prediction markets, and reputation systems. This part will be designed to be similar to an academic conference, somewhat in the spirit of cryptoeconomics.
- Applications development: focusing on the practical challenges of developing applications on the ethereum platform and effective design patterns to optimize security, efficiency, developer time, and user experience. This part will be designed to be similar to a programming language developer convention, e.g. http://nodejsconf.it/
- Industry and social implications: including IoT, finance, government, supply chain tracking, notarization, identity and reputation. This part will be designed to appeal to the industry and the general public, and in particular those who are outside the Ethereum ecosystem and who enter with the aim of understanding what its characteristics are and how their projects can benefit from the use of the technology, as well as other stakeholders such as policy makers and investors.
The conference will take place over 5 days from 9 to 13 November in London at the gibson saloon. The first half of the week will focus on dapp research and development, and the second half of the week will focus on the industry and social implications. We’ll also discuss how development will continue now that the platform has launched, as well as the future direction of the foundation as an organization. We hope that over the course of the week you will be able to develop the understanding and make the connections you need to take full advantage of the opportunities that Ethereum presents.
There will be keynote addresses from various members of the core development team, updating you on progress and some exciting new projects, and where possible we will endeavor to broadcast the event live so that people who were unable to attend will also can attend.
One of the features of the week will focus on the dapps the community is producing – a taster, if you will, of all the great things happening on the Ethereum platform. Expect talks from development teams sharing what they’ve learned and in-depth talks about the new businesses and business models enabled by the Ethereum platform. If you think you have something to share, feel free to contact us at [email protected].
A website will soon be active in http://devcon.ethereum.org and we will add details about prices, agenda, sponsorships, etc. as information becomes available.
