Meta just unveiled its latest smart glasses at today’s Connect event in Menlo Park. We were able to spend a little time with the new wearables and were impressed by what they can do, specifically live streaming, the feature that was most missing from the last generation.
It turns out that the Ray-Ban Meta will get additional features via a software update next year. The “multimodal” update brings some interesting real-world features, including the ability to identify landmarks in front of you and translate signals.
It’s not exactly the live voice translation that Google promised in its still-unreleased smart glasses a few years ago, but it definitely shows how these types of glasses will be more capable in the future. Of course, the lack of a front-facing display limits potential functionality, so the devices do most of the work via voice commands.
