The Ethereum Foundation is pleased to announce a five million dollar (USD) Scalability, Usability, and Security grant to Parity Technologies.
For several years, Parity Technologies has been an invaluable member of the Ethereum ecosystem for its leadership in major development efforts, its parity ethereal client and more. His work has continued at a breakneck pace. At Devcon4 in Prague, Parity team members presented their plans for developing a Serenity implementation, exemplifying an exciting direction for the next few years.
By all metrics, Parity is a major technical contributor to the Ethereum project, and they’ve remarkably done so as a self-funded and open-source effort since its founding.
The Ethereum Foundation is committed to funding teams and individuals that build the common infrastructure around scalability, usability, and security. To that end, we couldn’t think of a more suitable option for a grant given Parity’s constant pressure to raise the technical bar and its sharp focus on next-generation advancements like proof-of-stake, sharding, and WebAssembly.
We are delighted to see our ecosystem pick up and support technical merit and value alignment, and we are dedicated to using our resources to further this mission as well. We do this responsibly through milestone-based grants for projects, both large and small, commensurate with the potential impact of your work.
This grant will fund Parity’s work on Casper, sharding, thin clients, developer tools, QA, auditing, and infrastructure improvements. The funding will be delivered in several tranches, the first of which supports development that Parity has already completed. Others depend on reaching explicit milestones that include:

Completion of eWasm compatibility work

Shipping a light wallet for mainnet.

The successful completion of Phase 0 and Phase 1 of fragmentation.
We are grateful for Parity Technologies’ hard work and commitment to Ethereum, and we hope this grant will serve as a reminder of how much they have contributed already, as well as an indicator of an exciting future.
