GE Hitachi Nuclear Power (New York Stock Exchange: GE), Tennessee Valley Authority, Ontario Power Generation and Synthos Green Energy of Poland agree to partner to advance global deployment of the GEH BWRX-300 small modular reactor, World nuclear news reported on Friday.
The four groups will collaborate on the development of the standard BWRX-300 design and the detailed design of key components, including the pressure vessel and internal reactor components.
Each taxpayer said they will finance part of the total cost of development of a standard designwhich GE Hitachi expects will require a total investment of ~$400 million.
The collaborators agreed to form a Design Center Working Group aimed at ensuring that the standard design can be implemented in multiple jurisdictions, with the long-term goal of having the BWRX-300 design licensed and implemented in the US. USA, Canada, Poland and beyond.
