El Salvador Launches Bitcoin, Lightning Dev Training Office

The government of El Salvador has launched another initiative that represents its support for the adoption of Bitcoin and the development of a broader network.

This time, it’s a Bitcoin/lightning developer training program funded by venture capital firm Fulgur and stablecoin issuer Tether.

• As Announced by El Salvador’s bitcoin office Wednesday, the “CUBE+” program is an advanced Bitcoin engineering program that lasts several months and offers credit and potential placement for those who qualify for the inaugural Plan B scholarship.
• Plan B was an initiative of the Bitcoin Office thrown out in Lugano, Switzerland, last year to facilitate the adoption of Bitcoin. The city has already made Bitcoin and USDT de facto legal tender, and enabled the acceptance of BTC with more than 150 merchants in the city.
• “The Plan B Scholarship will provide the opportunity for El Salvador’s best and brightest computer science students to be trained by the biggest names in bitcoin from around the world,” the Bureau stated. The teachers and mentors involved have yet to be announced.
• CUBO+ is inspired by President Nayib Bukele’s CUBO project during his time as mayor, which involved building libraries and community centers in impoverished areas to help promote regional education.
• The current project will collaborate with the Don Bosco University in Soyapango, which was recently freed from gang control after Bukele’s brutal crackdown on gang violence that began last year.
• El Salvador was the first country to officially install Bitcoin as legal tender, along with the Central African Republic following his example months later.
• Subsequently, the nation plans to issue Bitcoin-backed bonds and build a “bitcoin city” that uses Bitcoin mining to finance its operations.

• “Within a few years, we believe El Salvador will become the global outsourcing hub for open source, peer-to-peer, Bitcoin and Lightning startups,” the Bitcoin Office wrote.
