Microsoft, which recently invested billions in OpenAI, is developing a non-custodial Ethereum wallet built into Edge, its Chromium-based browser.
Microsoft will incorporate a crypto wallet in Edge
In a March 17 tweet, Albacore, the researcher who curated this feature, said he was baffled and thought a crypto wallet at Edge is questionable.
The wallet is currently being tested and remains confidential while Microsoft gathers feedback. As such, it is unclear when the tech giant will release the crypto wallet to the masses.
However, what is evident is that Microsoft is interested in exploring the crypto route. By developing an integrated crypto wallet compatible with Ethereum and thus other Ethereum virtual machine (EVM) blockchains, users would have a means through which they can quickly store their digital assets, including currencies like ETH or tokens. non-expendable (NFT). ).
Crypto wallets are fundamental in blockchains, serving as portals for users to interact with the underlying ledgers. A crypto wallet has a private key and a public key. The public key is an address through which a user can receive assets.
Meanwhile, while sending assets or approving a transaction, they require a private key, a series of word phrases, to prove ownership.
Microsoft plans to launch a “hot” wallet, connected to the Internet, where users will have full control of their assets, such as Coinbase Wallet or MetaMask.
Wallet in test phase
In the onboarding process, Microsoft said that the non-custodial wallet would be integrated into Microsoft Edge and users would not need to install any extensions. However, being in the testing phase, Microsoft said that it would not be responsible in case of loss of funds.
“This is a non-custodial wallet, which means that you are in full control of your funds. We will not have access to your password and recovery key. It’s built into Edge, so it’s easy to use without installing any extensions. As a tester, you will use your own funds. In the event of loss of funds, Microsoft will not reimburse any loss. This is a confidential project; no details should be shared externally.”
At the end of February 2023, Microsoft associated with Ankr to support companies and businesses that need to access blockchain data through a trusted node hosting service provider.
