Pyrmont forks, tests in progress
After a series of small but very valuable Altair development networks, Pyrmont, a large public test network, was upgraded last week. The transition to Altair went smoothly, setting the stage for the next wave of testing and updates.
This week Pyrmont is being put to the test as we run a series of test scenarios about him soon to be obsolete testnet Don’t panic! At the time of writing, Pyrmont already has 482 epochs without finality with a large number of validators going offline for a few days. Such tests help eliminate corner cases in consensus code and also highlight customer issues in handling load in rare scenarios.

With Pyrmont updated, Prater, a larger and longer-term testnet, is next. The customer teams agreed on an update date of September 2 (12:00 pm UTC). See complete configuration for the Altair Prater network here.
Keep an eye out for customer releases that include the Prater fork setup. These should drop over the next week and allow you to update your testnet nodes in preparation for the hard fork next Thursday.
After the Prater update, it’s a good time to induce various operations on the network: get out of a validator, cut yourself, have fun!
When will Altair mainnet?
Although there is still a lot to do between here and there, the fork of the Altair mainnet is fast approaching. Assuming a relatively smooth Pyrmont test and a successful Prater update, customer teams are targeting a late September Altair mainnet release 🚀
