Google’s annual developer conference will return on May 10. The search giant Announced the date of Tuesday afternoon after netizens quickly resolved the puzzle Google shared in the morning. Similar to last year’s conference, I/O 2023 will take place in front of a “limited live audience” at the historic Shoreline Amphitheater in Mountain View, California. Google hasn’t done an I/O that anyone can pay to attend since before the pandemic. In 2020, the conference was cancelled, like many other in-person events that were scheduled for that year. A year later, Google held the event at its Mountain View campus, with an in-person audience limited primarily to company employees.
The good news is that Google will publicly stream the event. I/O 2023 will open with a keynote address from CEO Sundar Pichai, followed by on-demand developer sessions that will be available to view on YouTube and the I/O website. More than in years past, the stakes will be high at I/O 2023. Google is likely to spend a significant portion of the event showcasing its latest AI breakthroughs and innovations, and for good reason. Bard’s recent announcement did not go as planned after the chatbot shared incorrect information about the James Webb Space Telescope. Google needs to show that it won’t be outpaced by rivals like OpenAI.
