A Disney World theme park has reopened a popular attraction after a facelift more than two weeks earlier than expected.
Walt Disney theme parks have an extensive schedule of new construction and renovation projects underway that can disrupt a visitor’s trip to any given park.
“Song of the South”-themed Splash Mountain at Disney World’s Magic Kingdom in Orlando closed its doors for good on January 23 to re-theme Tiana’s Bayou Adventure, based on the animated film “Princess and the Frog.” , which is expected to open by the end of 2024. Disneyland’s Splash Mountain ride in Anaheim, California, remained open as of the last visit to the theme park’s website on February 28, operating from 8 a.m. to 11 p.m., and the park has yet to disclose a closing date.
DON’T MISS: Disney’s California Adventure brings back a popular attraction
However, the Disneyland website has a note on Splash Mountain that reads, “An exciting update is coming soon! Splash Mountain will undergo a transformation and reopen in late 2024 as Tiana’s Bayou Adventure, a whimsical attraction inspired by The Princess and the Frog”. “
Splash Mountain closure is yet to come
On January 9, Disneyland closed its popular Indiana Jones Adventure attraction at Adventureland for redevelopment with plans for completion and reopening in spring 2023. On February 12, Disneyland said it would reopen Indiana Jones on March 26, but WDW Today’s News noticed the next day that the schedule for the trip says it will be closed that day and open on March 27.
Disneyland Resort’s Mickey’s Toontown Land, which has been closed since March 9, 2022 and was scheduled to reopen on March 8, 2023, will open on March 19 as winter storms from Southern California interfered with the reconstruction and forced a postponement.
Disneyland may very well be waiting for Mickey’s Toontown to reopen, and perhaps Indiana Jones Adventure, before closing Splash Mountain to prevent two big popular attractions and a themed land from closing at the same time.
But it’s always good news when a popular ride reopens after a long or short closure. Big Thunder Mountain Railroad, a fast-paced gold mine-themed roller coaster ride at Disney World’s Magic Kingdom, closed Jan. 9 for renovations for just a few days and reopened Jan. 14.

Disney World’s Animal Kingdom has Kali river rapids to cool down overheated guests. The Animal Kingdom website advertises the trip as: Raft Down a Rip Roaring River.
“Cross an erupting geyser, slide beneath a canopy of lush vegetation, and drift down rapids. Pass gushing waterfalls and bedrock amidst the raging current. Then, when the harmony of nature is disrupted , you will plummet down a spectacular 20 foot drop!” says the description.
Oh, and “You’ll get wet,” he claims.
Kali River Rapids closed for redevelopment on January 9, 2023, with a reopening date set for March 17, Disney previously reported. But Animal Kingdom surprisingly reopened the ride on February 27, more than two weeks early. BlogMickey reported.
