TikTok has at least partially returned to the US following a nationwide ban, but other popular ByteDance-owned apps, such as the digital card game Marvel Broochvideo editing app CapCut and social platform Lemon8 remain blocked. None of these apps, including TikTok, are currently available for download on the Apple App Store or Google Play Store.
Although many users expected CapCut and Lemon8 to be affected by the law banning TikTok, Marvel BroochThe ban took some by surprise, including its own developer. On Sunday morning, the Second Dinner game studio <a target="_blank" href="https://x.com/seconddinner/status/1880861537981944300?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw%7Ctwcamp%5Etweetembed%7Ctwterm%5E1880861537981944300%7Ctwgr%5E%7Ctwcon%5Es1_&ref_url=about%3Asrcdoc”>said in a post on x“This interruption is a surprise to us and was not planned. MARVEL SNAP is not going anywhere.” Marvel Brooch is published by Nuverse, a game developer owned by ByteDance.
Users trying to open Wonder BreakCapCut and Lemon8 will see a message similar to the one TikTok displayed when it went dark on Saturday night. “A law has been passed prohibiting CapCut in the US,” the pop-up inside CapCut reads. “Unfortunately, that means you can't use CapCut for now. Rest assured, we are working to restore our service in the US. Stay tuned!
Both Google and Apple show ads to users who try to search for ByteDance-owned apps. While the Play Store says: “Downloads of this app are paused due to current US legal requirements,” a sign on the App Store notes: “TikTok and other ByteDance apps are not available in the country or region where you find yourself.”
It is still unclear when Marvel BroochCapCut or Lemon8 will start working again or when they reappear in the mobile app stores.
