ATLANTA, Georgia – Visix, Inc., a leading provider of digital signage, wayfinding and space management solutions, celebrates 45 years in business. Over four and a half decades, the company has grown to serve more than 4,000 customers on three continents, evolving its software, hardware and services to help organizations create, manage and deliver more engaging communications to their audiences.
Visix's mission is simple: “help people communicate better.” By developing products that are easy to use and access, the company aims to improve the quality and reach of visual messages for a more dynamic user and audience experience.
“Our journey has been one of constant transformation and innovation,” says Sean Matthews, President and CEO of Visix. “We have gone from making AV hardware tools in the 80s to offering a Complete portfolio of visual communication solutions. today. It has been a pleasure to grow with our customers, partners and employees over the past 45 years, navigating together so many technological and communication advances. What has not changed is our focus on meeting the needs of our customers through the development of innovative products and exceptional support and service.”
Founded in 1980 as tech Electronics, Inc. (TEi), the company initially offered black box products such as programmable video controllers and media recovery systems. In 2000, it launched AxisTV, its first digital signage content management software. Under the leadership of Sean Matthews since 2004, the company shifted its focus to software development. In 2006, all non-AxisTV products were retired and the company was renamed Visix to reflect its new direction.
Since the beginning, Visix has partnered with a broad network of AV/IT resellers, bringing its products to corporate, educational, government, healthcare and hospitality customers around the world. Over time, the company has become the preferred digital signage provider for higher education, serving more than 1,000 colleges and universities with software features tailored to campus environments.
Visix has continually expanded the reach and impact of its solutions, redefining the concept of digital signage by extending visual messaging to room signs, websites, desktop and mobile devices. The company has also incorporated interactive design services and space reservation solutions, consolidating itself as a comprehensive provider of visual communication. Visix has been recognized as one of Inc.'s Best Places to Work and has earned dozens of product awards and more than 130 awards for content and interactive designs.
“At Visix, we've helped redefine the digital signage experience,” says Trey Hicks, CSO and COO of Visix. “We don't just specify and sell products: we partner with clients to shape their communications strategies, offering expert advice on content, design and emerging trends in organizational messaging. This approach not only drives the success of our clients, but has also inspired the industry as a whole. “Many competitors have followed our lead and we are proud to have led our industry towards adopting a more holistic approach to digital signage.”
That broader mindset has led to numerous advancements by Visix in the digital signage space. Visix was the first to:
- focus on organizational communications versus retail environments.
- consult on communication strategy, content planning and success measures.
- integrate the common alert protocol (CAP) for emergency notifications.
- Extend playback of digital signage content to desktop and mobile devices.
- Develop a voice user interface for digital signs and room signs.
- incorporate room signs into the digital signage ecosystem.
- Introduce desktop signage and e-paper rooms to facility managers in North America.
- launches the reservation of spaces in augmented reality for smartphones.
Visix has also established itself as a thought leader in the digital signage industry, offering the largest library of free resources for digital signage users and communications professionals, including expert articles, guides, whitepapers, videos and award-winning Digital signage done rightpodcast.
Looking ahead, Visix remains focused on innovation. In 2025, the company plans to further enhance its AxisTV Signage Suite software with expanded data mapping and analysis capabilities, as well as support for BrightSign players. Visix also aims to accelerate the adoption of sustainable space management practices with smartphone bookings and e-paper signage for office hotel environments.
“Visix's next chapter will be defined by next-generation ideas, creative market solutions and an unwavering commitment to our customers and partners,” says Matthews. “We're just getting started.”
