We've been hearing rumors about foldable devices that Apple may or may not be making for years, ranging from plans for a foldable iPad, but the latest suggests we may also be onto something much bigger. According to Mark Gurman in the In this weekend's newsletter, Apple is developing a foldable device with a screen that opens to almost 20 inches. The plan is “something like a giant iPad that unfolds to the size of two iPad Pros side by side,” with elements of both iPad and Mac functionality, according to Gurman. The company is reportedly targeting a 2028 launch.
Not only will the device be huge, but Apple is also working to make it wrinkle-free when opened, Gurman reports, something other companies haven't accomplished with their own foldable devices. Apple's prototypes “have an almost invisible crease,” he writes, but it hasn't completely disappeared. The report comes about a week after a which described a similar device with an 18.8-inch screen that will supposedly be released between 2028 and 2030. Gurman predicts that the foldable device will run on “iPadOS or a variant thereof.”
