In a nod to the desire of educators to feel more comfortable using ai in teaching and learning, Common Sense Media and Openai have launched “Chatgpt foundations for K-12 educators”, a free course designed to help teachers Understand and implement the basic concepts of ai in their classroom.
Free for all school educators and districts, the course of one hour and eight moons provides educators with essential knowledge about ai and approaches to guarantee the safety and privacy of students.

The course has been tested in almost a dozen school districts, including the Secondary School of Fria Union School and the Challenger School, with early promising results. It covers essential issues that include foundations of ai, data privacy considerations, ethical use guidelines and ideas on how to incorporate ai in the daily work of educators.

The launch marks the first milestone in a broader association between common sense and the option announced In January 2024, aimed at developing guidelines for ai and educational materials for parents, educators and young people.
