In response to the absolutely baffling discussion about whether people should be allowed to sing along with Wicked in theaters (absolutely not), Universal is releasing a bunch of screenings specifically for people who consider themselves showgirls.
Universal announced that special today interactive, sing Wicked projections are arriving in theaters in the United States, Canada, and select international markets starting December 25. In addition to on-screen lyrics for people not yet out of the book, the screenings will include a special message from stars Arianna Grande and Cynthia Erivo (who previously come out in favor of audience participation).
In a statement about the screenings, Universal's president of domestic theatrical distribution, Jim Orr, described them as a unique opportunity for fans to “become part of the story they have so enthusiastically embraced.” But for those of us who just want to let the professionals sing, this sounds like the studio is making sure we can see the movie in peace.
