It is not known exactly what the new year and the new administration in the United States will bring. But big changes are likely coming to the tech world, especially if President-elect Donald Trump enacts all the tariffs he threatened during the election campaign. We don't have a crystal ball to tell us exactly what may become more expensive or by how much, but there are several categories of expensive products that are at serious risk of being priced out of reach for many people.
Trump said on mondays that would put “an additional 10 percent tariff on top of any additional tariff” on all products from China, after campaigning on a promise to implement 60 percent tariffs on Chinese imports. TO batch of technology products are imported from China, including components used in products assembled elsewhere.
If you're already looking for tech and gadgets like TVs, laptops, or phones, the good news is that there are plenty of great options currently on sale for Black Friday. So it may be smart to make that big purchase now if you're worried about mitigating any regrets in the new year if prices really rise.
let me be very Honestly with you: the idea for this article came from many of us at The edge Have friends and family ask me directly: “What should I buy now before the tariffs hit?” There's no telling what companies will do if U.S. tariffs are actually enacted against countries like China and Mexico: They could bear the cost or pass some or all of the cost on to U.S. consumers. But if I had to guess, the devices will become more expensive in the new year, not less.
We're not saying you should go crazy and panic and buy things or go into debt for something you're not even sure you'll use. Trump has a long history of breaking campaign promises, business contracts, and policy announcements; The same could happen here. But if you're trying to decide which products to buy this year instead of 2025, hopefully this list can be helpful.
