Humanoid Origin will be closed. The three-year-old independent game studio, led by former BioWare CEO and Mass Effect creator Casey Hudson, is the latest victim of a brutal streak for game developers and other industry professionals.
on LinkedIn mail In announcing the closure, Humanoid Origin said its efforts to protect its team from industry problems were insufficient. “An unexpected funding shortfall left us unable to maintain operations,” the studio wrote.
Hudson formed the studio (then called Humanoid Studios) in 2021, when hiring in the industry was gaining momentum after COVID lockdowns were lifted. He described the startup as a means to “unleash the creative freedom of developers” by “bringing innovation and art to gamers through an entirely new IP.” Your website celebrated content created around interactive worlds, characters and storytelling, while embracing innovation “that feels magical.”
The following year, the studio said it was working on a multi-platform AAA game in “an entirely new sci-fi universe.” IGN noted Monday that Humanoid Origin was hiring in May of this year.
“We are heartbroken that we will not be able to complete our new sci-fi universe,” the studio wrote today. “However, our main concern at this time is our team and we are committed to supporting them in their transition to new employment.”
