Kylie Robinson is The edgeSenior reporter covering artificial intelligence. Previously worked at Fortunewhere he covered twitter; Before that, he covered the culture of software developers (“a rhythm,” he says, “I invented and loved”) for Insider business information. “I've always been obsessed with technology in an extremely online way,” she adds, “and The edge It is full of people who are on the same wavelength.”
We asked Kylie to tell us a little about her home office setup.
It looks like his office space is right outside the kitchen.
Is! I live in a studio, but when I tell people that, they say it's too big to be called that, so my friends and I joke that it's a luxury studio. My living room is also my bedroom, I have a dining nook that I use as an office, and my kitchen is right behind me.
Could you tell us a little about the desk itself?
Is a Mittzon desk from Ikea. I wanted something adjustable in a light oak color and it has a great cable management system on the back.
It is a standard desk chair from amazon. I should probably update soon…
Tell us about the different technological devices you are using.
I just bought a new MacBook Pro M4 which I love. I have a Dell Ultra HD 4K monitor (no longer available) and a <a target="_blank" href="https://www.amazon.com/ASUS-PA247CV-DisplayPort-Daisy-Chaining-Anti-Glare/dp/B08K2NT2G7?th=1&tag=theverge02-20″>Asus ProArt Monitor. I have no idea how long I've had them or where I got them from. I have a pair of first generation Apple AirPod Max headphones. I have two pairs of Ray-Ban Metas. (One is a limited edition pair). Last but not least, a Vergecast-mandated <a target="_blank" href="https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07ZPBFVKK?tag=theverge02-20″>Audio Technica Microphone (I was told my Blue Yeti stunk).
You have a huge amount of interesting stuff there. For example, the pad of paper you have under the keyboard is beautiful.
Thank you! <a target="_blank" href="https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0C1YH1JT3/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_image?ie=UTF8&th=1&tag=theverge02-20″>I thought the aesthetic was nice.In fact, I have another one in a different color depending on my mood. It's a nice addition to add some color.
Who is the smiling pink bag?
That's Kirby! A Nintendo character that contains all my Micron pens.
Tell us about that crystal prize right under the monitor.
I got it in college. I was raised by my mother, who did not go to college, qualifying me as a first-generation student. I earned an achievement award for my work for my student publication, The state hornetwhere I wrote about technology in times of covid. I think it also helped that I had a good GPA.
Are those family photos on the wall?
Yeah! The old school portrait is my grandmother, also known as the love of my life. There's also my mom's high school portrait, where she's wearing a t-shirt that says “Girls Kick Butt!” – probably my favorite photo up there. There's my grandpa holding me as a baby, photos of my friends, my preschool class, my Burning Man ID, and a tweet from Wood Burning Dril.
I saw it online and it was the best impulse purchase of my life. How wonderful.
I had to look for those sonny angel figures. Is there a story behind them?
Sometimes you need a few little friends to help you get through your days. I just think they're cute! They're also very popular with young women – I live in Japantown in San Francisco, so it's easy for me to buy them.
I'm fascinated by all the interesting things you have on the shelves. Not to mention the neon face….
that face is <a target="_blank" href="https://www.amazon.com/GGK-Majoras-Mask-Decor-Gamer/dp/B0BF9FLCX7?tag=theverge02-20″>Majora's Mask of The legend of Zelda! there is a lot of zelda things all over my house, Breath of the wild It could be my favorite video game. My shelves also have a 3D printed Moo Deng, the <a target="_blank" href="https://x.com/kyliebytes/status/1838351684457894124″>biting a baby hippo; some books signed by the industry; a Lego Nezuko demon slayer; my university degree; a pothos plant; an ai toy (which has yet to be released to the masses); the dried flowers from the celebration of a friend's life; a scoop of ice cream with “Slack Scoop” engraved on it to commemorate my entire experience – there’s a lot to love up there.
And last but not least, introduce us to your cat!
That's Fang! My grandfather likes to call him Fangster. Fun fact: I named him Fang on a whim, and four years after getting him, the vet said he had teeth problems that would require quite a few teeth to be extracted. In the end, the only teeth he was able to keep were his fangs. How strange, huh?
Is there anything else we didn't cover that you would like to add?
Anyone who sees this, please don't yell at me for my cable configuration. I gave up so quickly. Please keep me in your thoughts and prayers.
