WASHINGTON (Reuters) – JPMorgan Chase Chief Executive Jamie Dimon will not be invited to join Donald Trump's administration, the U.S. president-elect said on social media on Thursday.
“I have a lot of respect for Jamie Dimon of JPMorgan Chase (NYSE:), but he will not be invited to be part of the Trump Administration,” Trump said in his post.
A source told Reuters last week that Dimon will remain at the bank and had no plans to join the Trump administration after being the subject of speculation as a candidate for Treasury secretary in the run-up to the Nov. 5 election. .
Trump, a Republican, defeated Democratic Vice President Kamala Harris in the election. Dimon said last month that his chances of holding an official position were “almost zero.”
Trump has not yet announced his choice for Treasury secretary. Billionaire banker Howard Lutnick and investor Scott Bessent are leading candidates for the job, sources told Reuters.
Dimon, one of the most prominent leaders in corporate America, has led JPMorgan for nearly 19 years.
Dimon and other members of the bank's operating committee congratulated Trump and other elected officials, according to a memo to staff last week seen by Reuters.
The outspoken CEO frequently travels to Washington to speak with policymakers and has expressed opinions on everything from housing and the U.S.-China relationship to the economy. He continued his tradition of not endorsing any presidential candidate this year.
