Sega plans to remove many of its classic games from digital stores starting December 6 at 11:59 pm PT.
Steam will be the hardest hit, losing 62 titles, including crazy taxi, Dr. Robotnik's Bad Bean Machine, Jet Set Radio, NiGHTS into Dreams, and 3D sonic explosion. Sega removes 12 titles from the Xbox store. Nintendo eShop and PlayStation Store will “simply” lose SEGA Genesis Classics — but that title includes over 50 older Genesis games, so that still means many won't be available. Any games you have purchased will still be available to download and play after they are delisted from stores, so if you have your eye on any of them, you may want to purchase them before they disappear.
The delistings are coming ahead of Sega's planned reboots for Jet Set Radio, Shinobi, Golden Ax, streets of rageand crazy taxibut those revivals are not expected in the short term. And it wouldn't be the first time Sega has removed games from the list before releasing them in a different form: the company removed the vast majority of classic games. Hopefully the games being removed in December will be available to purchase again at some point; Keeping video game classics alive is hard enough.
