Canadian computer scientist and cryptographer Peter Todd says he was forced to go into hiding for fear of his personal safety after a HBO documentary claimed that he is the mysterious creator of bitcoin, Satoshi Nakamoto.
“Obviously, falsely claiming that ordinary people with ordinary wealth are extraordinarily rich exposes them to threats such as robbery and kidnapping,” Todd said in a bitcoin-creator-satoshi-nakamoto-now-hes-in-hiding/”>interview with wiring.
Peter Todd says he is not Satoshi Nakamoto
According to Todd, he agreed to participate in the documentary because he thought it was going to talk about the history of bitcoin. But he alleged that he is the real-world identity behind the mysterious creator of bitcoin. “This was clearly going to be a circus,” Todd said.
The HBO movie “Money Electric: The bitcoin Mystery” aired on October 9. His producer, Cullen Hoback, announced that Satoshi Nakamoto's true identity would finally be revealed and pointed to Todd. Since then, Todd has repeatedly denied being the creator of bitcoin.

I like Peter Todd. I wish I were Satoshi. But this is just sloppy journalism. pic.twitter.com/q2CEuhRLvh

Despite actively denying being the creator of bitcoin, the computer scientist has a history of jokingly saying, “I am Satoshi.” However, these statements appear to be a play on the iconic phrase “I am Spartacus” from the popular movie Spartacus, not a confession.
Satoshi Nakamoto's identity is a matter of public interest
Hoback maintains that Todd is exaggerating things and added that many people have been unmasked like Satoshi before and faced no risks to their personal safety.
Hoback says the discovery of Satoshi Nakamoto's identity is a matter of public interest. If countries intend to adopt btc into their treasuries or make it legal tender, then Satoshi Nakamoto could become the richest person in the world, according to Hoback.
“The idea that there is potentially an anonymous figure controlling one-twentieth of the total supply of digital gold is pretty significant,” Hoback said.
