Arlo is launching a new floodlight security camera that connects directly to your home's Wi-Fi network and power source. This allows the Arlo Wired Floodlight Camera to monitor and illuminate outdoor spaces 24/7 without interruption, unlike battery-powered security systems.
This is Arlo's first wired floodlight camera and is now available to purchase on the company's website for $149.99. Hard-wired security systems are more difficult to install than battery-powered alternatives, but Arlo says its first lighting system features a “simple, hard-wired DIY installation.” It's also more affordable than Arlo's $250 Pro 3 Wireless Spotlight Camera, which can be configured as wireless either wired system.
In fact, the Wired Floodlight camera shares many of the same features as the wireless Pro 3, including 2K HDR compatible video, a 160-degree field of view, color night vision, and a built-in siren to scare away intruders. Both models also offer up to 2,000 lumens of adjustable brightness, but it's worth noting that the wireless Pro 3 actually boosts that to 3,000 lumens if you choose to plug it into your electrical system. On the other hand, the reflector is a fixed faceplate on the wireless model, while the wired reflector camera is articulated so that light can be directed to specific areas.
Features like the ability to set automated lighting schedules based on time or activity are available through the Arlo Secure app. The app is required to view live video, use two-way audio communication, and receive motion notifications. Those features are free, but others, such as 30-day cloud storage for recorded videos and creating custom alerts when people, animals, vehicles or packages are detected, are locked behind various subscription tiers that start at $7, 99 per month.
The Wired Floodlight Camera also integrates with amazon Alexa, Google Home, and IFTTT for those who want to automate and control functions within their existing smart home setups.
