As extreme weather events become more common, climate risks influence many people's long-term decision making. And few things last longer than buying real estate. In response, Zillow has a new partnership to bring climate risk information to your sales listings.
Property listing pages in the US will include data on flood, wildfire, wind, heat and air quality risks in that location. This section will also list weather-related insurance requirements for that property. The information is being provided by specialist in financial models of climate risk. The weather data will roll out this year to Zillow's website and iOS app, while Android is expected to receive the update early next year. Some locations have already been updated to display weather data on the web.
Those five risk categories also apply to Zillow's interactive map search view. Each of the different climate concerns has a color-coded visualization to show risk levels across the entire country or in a smaller region. It is valuable information for anyone who is in a position to take that big leap in purchasing a home. For everyone else, it can simply add a touch of grim reality to the joyful experience of touring absurd and/or expensive houses.
Zillow also introduced its ai search feature earlier this month.
