Water cooler chats are a special kind of informal chat that is often seen in office spaces around a water cooler. There, employees often share all sorts of corporate gossip, myths and legends, inaccurate scientific opinions, indiscreet personal anecdotes, or outright lies. Anything goes. That's why in my water cooler chat posts I discuss strange and usually scientifically invalid opinions I've heard in the office that have literally left me speechless.
Here is the opinion of today's post:
I work in an office with over 60 people and last week two of them had the same birthday. When they realized they shared a birthday, they had a conversation similar to the following:
– I can't believe we have our birthdays on the same day!
– Yes, what are the chances?
…and everyone commented on how strange it was. A crazy, karmic coincidence…
But what are the odds, really? With a quick estimate, one might think that the odds of such an event occurring should be very low…
