The fast food giant has brought a fan favorite to one of its menus, but you may have to take a trip to try it out.
mcdonald’s (dcm) – Get a free reportHe’s no stranger to bringing a fan-favorite menu item back to the menu and then removing it again. Some of the menu changes are regular or seasonal. McDonald’s has followed PSL protocol when it comes to their take on the popular Pumpkin Spice Latte and only brings it back in the fall and when it turns into the holiday season it sadly disappears from the menu for a year or so.
McDonald’s has holiday treats to help curb those cravings to miss out on Pumpkin Spice. It has brought back Donut Sticks and Cinnamon Cookie Latte after the PSL was removed from the menu. After the holiday season, it will soon be time for the Shamrock Shake to make an appearance as well. These are all holiday or seasonal menu changes.
Then there’s the McDonald’s McRib, the boneless pork sandwich covered in delicious BBQ sauce. This menu item has a huge following, and there’s a McRib tracker to find out when and if the sandwich is back on the menu (and the company says it’s now gone for good).
The seasonality of the drink menu and the McRib are always a big hit and fans wish the limited menu items would stick around forever, but the limited time creates a sense of urgency to try while they last. Now, the chain has deviated. A far cry from the limited time offer model, at least for a popular sandwich, which is added to the “permanent” menu, but only in the UK.
McDonald’s hears pleas and answers for the return of a fan favorite
McDonald’s is bringing the heat back with its McSpicy to the menu, and it stays on the informed menu delicious. Hot and spicy chicken breast served with mayonnaise, lettuce and on a sesame seed bun is a popular menu item and it’s coming back forever. The return will arrive on February 15 across the UK. The McSpicy will be available for £4.79 or £6.29 as a budget meal.
McDonald’s, best known for its hamburgers, has expanded its chicken menu in recent years. In the UK it also recently brought out the McCrispy, which is served much like the McSpicy but without all the tasty spices.
(The American menu offers variants of these chicken sandwiches under the “Deluxe” line of crispy chicken sandwiches.)
Both chicken sandwiches will remain on the UK menu, according to the company.
“Were so delighted to welcome McSpicy’s to our permanent menu throughout the UK and Ireland. The McSpicy brings heat to our menu, and we hope chicken lovers across the country are as excited about its tenure as we are,” said Gráinne Allen, McDonald’s Director of Food and Innovation.
The “permanent” return of McSpicy and McCrispy shows that McDonald’s fans are being heard about how to respond to their requests. McDonald’s had only debuted McSpicy in the UK in July 2021 according to Express and it was a success. The new fan favorite made another limited-time return before McDonald’s decided to make it a permanent menu addition.
McDonald’s focus goes beyond LTOs
In fact, McDonald’s has scaled back its limited-time offers beyond the expected seasonal ones in the United States as it has focused on building its digital business.
“Through our focus on digital, we are transforming ourselves from a brand that serves billions of people in the same way to one that serves each of our billions of customers uniquely as individuals with products, personalized offerings and experiences. By doing this, we strengthen our customers’ love and loyalty for McDonald’s. These investments are paying off. In the fourth quarter, digital accounted for more than 35% of system-wide sales in our six core markets, CEO Christopher J. Kempczinski said during the chain’s conference call. fourth quarter earnings call.
Those efforts have been incredibly successful.
“In 2022, the McDonald’s app was downloaded more than 40 million times in the US, more than the total downloads of brands 2, 3 and 4 combined,” he added.
