Stellantis, Chrysler’s parent company, has issued a recall for 2019 and 2021-2024 Ram 1500 pickup trucks due to a software issue in the anti-lock braking system. The bug could cause the anti-lock braking system to “disable the electronic stability control system,” which in turn can increase the risk of a crash, according to a notice from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA).
The recall affects approximately 1.46 million vehicles worldwide. reports, the vast majority of them in the United States. NHTSA says notices will be mailed to owners in early October and they will need to take their trucks to a dealership so the ABS control module software can be updated. So far, the vehicles do not meet the federal motor vehicle safety standard for electronic stability control systems, NHTSA says.
